TWICE’s Jihyo Shares Her Thoughts on Leadership, Says It Might Cause Her to Die 5 Years Earlier Than Expected

On November 4, a video titled “Leading TWICE Feels Like It’ll Take 5 Years Off My Life..” was uploaded to the YouTube channel “Naraeshik.”
During the video, Jihyo spoke about TWICE‘s upcoming full group comeback, “We’re coming back on December 6. Since we’ve been around for a while, there’s a worry that ‘we need to get good reactions.’ I really want to do well. In the past, I just did what I was told, and I didn’t have many desires.”
Born in 1997, she shared, “I’ve been a trainee since I was 8. Back then, I wanted to play with my friends, but honestly, now that things are going really well, I don’t have any regrets.” She continued, “I did go through burnout. During the contract renewal period, especially because it was the first time, I was worried about what Park Jihyo, the entertainer, should do in the future. I can’t be an idol for 20-30 years.”
She went on, “At first, most of the members wanted to renew their contracts. Personally, we talked a lot about our concerns among ourselves. We also shared our concerns with the company and asked them to mediate. I respect that. Just because we’re on the same team doesn’t mean I can take responsibility for their lives.” She added, “So, we respected each other’s opinions, and I think the members’ strong attachment to the team played a big role.”
Jihyo then said, “When we first talked about renewing our contracts, I thought I should say I’d step down as leader. But, that’s my personality. It’s inevitable. Every group needs someone to play the bad guy. Not a bad person, but someone who can speak critically,” and laughed. “I thought being a leader wasn’t that big of a deal. But recently, I’ve been feeling it. It’s not that being a leader is hard, but I might die about five years earlier than my life expectancy,” she said, making everyone laugh.

Jihyo also mentioned that they had now reached their 10th year. She shared thoughts about the members, “Dahyun is really quiet. She doesn’t like to talk about her worries. Sana and I are both E on the MBTI,” she continued. “I talk the most with Jeongyeon. We’ve been together the longest and we’re the same age. We’ve shoved and pushed each other, but I don’t even remember it. I think it’s because we’re really close.”
Lastly, she talked about her firm views on relationships, “If someone’s going to cheat, they will. Just let them go and be done with it. It’s heartbreaking. I think they’ll cheat no matter when, so I’d rather break up before I get too attached. I’ll get hurt, but what can I do? After all, life is lived alone, right?” showing her cool and straightforward attitude.
